Fr Stefan pens an open letter to help woman understand men for Valentine Day.

Men come into the world without a clue about relationship and love.. Yes we learn some things from our family.. but we are like deer in the headlights when it comes to marriage and love. However it is my thought that men are better at friendship than women. This is my thought after reading CS Lewis ‘The Four Loves’ Women are better at Eros love.. Men are better at friendship love. They are distinct.

Men more than women want to keep the peace. To get alone to not cause waves, to not cause trouble. Men think ‘what do I need to do to hold all this together to make this family work to provide money security.

Men want a check box and if the wife is happy he is happy.

But this is not love or the stuff of marriage. Marriage love is about two imperfect people loving each other under Jesus Christ and His Church. Love comes when we are imperfect.. and the wife says ‘I love You’ You are the ‘Apple of my Eye ‘ Love marriage is not a contest to see who can figure out all the problems. Love only begins when wr have failed and the other person holds our hands and says ‘today we can begin anew.’
