In the first reading Hannah is being mocked by many people including ‘ Peninnah’ as Zupjite had ‘two wives. She was mocked because she was barren. And to be barren was viewed as a punishment from God.
‘Peninnah would approach her, and Hannah would refuse to eat.’
Hannah is a symbol type of those who seem like ‘God has forgotten.’ But as the Psalm says ‘God hears the cry of the poor.’ When when she goes to the temple to pray Eli ‘The High Priest.’ mocked her as we will read tomorrow ‘ Eli thinking her drunk, and said to her ‘ How long will you make a drunken show of yourself? Sober up.’
And will read on Tuesday ; When Elkanah had relations with his wife Hannah, the Lord remembered her. She conceived and fire a son Samuel since she asked the Lord for him.’
In a commentary we read ‘ Hannah who was childless, prayed reverently for a son. God heard Hannah prayer and granted her what she asked dispite her apparent infertility. Her son Samuel would become a prophet and judge of Israel.’ And anoint king Saul and David.
Hannah is a symbol of those who might feel like God has forgotten them, and many might mock their pain and call them crazy.
But Hannah is a type of Mary, and of all those who seems to struggle with being forgotten. God as remembered you… and will give you the desire of your heart.
