Last night as I was sleeping an image came to me that helps explains how Jesus gives us the fruits of the Cross.
Often when we go out to eat we say to the waiter ‘we want separate checks.’ or we can say ‘ put it all one check .’ or something like ‘I will. pay for this person.’ but need another check for this ‘husband and wife’ ‘Mom and child.’ etc…
if a young child goes out to eat with its mothers the waiter ‘would put the two on one check.’ I think this is an image of how Jesus gives the Fruits of the Cross to us. Sometimes in Charity and Justice one person can pay the whole bill.’ Maybe it because a young child doesn’t; or can’t pay. Other times each person will get a separate check. Everyone got different items and to make it easier each pays the bill of what they got.
So at times in order to receive the fruits of the Cross. We will at times put everything on one bill, or we divide up the bill such as ‘a mother paying for her child or a husband paying for his wife.’
Deepening on the circumstances we have to figure out what is apporaite to this occasion.
Also to our surprise the waiter might say ‘ the person that as was sitting over there who just left picked up your bill.’ Sometimes we might do that.. as a act of Charity.
As when we go out to eat. Each occasion determines how the bill will be paid. As we know all analogies are imperfect. Jesus has paid the bill in Full and more than full.. in superabundance..Jesus says ‘Come to my banquet and eat.’ and we read ‘Those ho have not money come and eat fine wheat and drink rich red wine.’ But It is true we still have a part to pray how the fruits of the meal are given and eaten.
An image from a. priest might apply.. When a priest offer a mass for a person.. it does make a difference in the ordinary way ( I say this because God can give His fruits ultimately any ways He wants.) when a mass is offered for one person as against when a mass is offered for the whole world. Again God is not limited… But we do appreciate it when someone prays at at least tries to pray for us by name.. even if in a unconcsious way.. That is why we might keep a book where we write down our intentions when we pray..
