As I read this book.. it strikes me that as a brash young 22 year old, just out of college, how I went to Calcutta to see and work with Mother Theresa the Summer of 1992. How lucky I was that according to this excellent book on her life, how much she travelled that she was there the whole summer I was there, just one sister among the many.. and how lucky I was.. when on a particular day..: I was in the mother house in the chapel.. almost alone.. I must have been because.. There was a a stair case going up to the private rooms of the sisters and Mother Theresa room.. there was a sign at bottom of stairs ‘no one is allowed to go to up to where the sisters lived, where mother Theresa room was’ well filled with the Holy Daring of Theresa who wrote in her Story of a Soul.. how when she was a young girl when she went to room on a pilgrimage, she was at the Colosseum, and there was sign that forbid anyone from touching the area marble where the martyr died, but St Therese thinking with her Holy Daring that she wanted to touch the place where the Martyrs died.. so she did.. so thinking in my 22 year old brain.. this might be my one chance to see Mother Theresa alone face to face.. well I went up the stairs passed the sign and on a balcony above the Chapel.. I stood alone face to face with Mother Thersa.. went up at perfect time.. and I asked Mother Theresa If she would pray 3 Hail Marys for me and my vocation, I had applied to the Seminary but was not yet accepted.. she said she would.. and about a week later I called to the Chancery from a coffee shop in Calcutta that I was accepted for the Diocese of Arlington and started the seminary one month later.. after reading this book. I am lucky that Mother Theresa didn’t scold me for disregarding the sign.. but she must have known that I was only following the example that her patron St Therese had set.
