Saint Thomas says ‘Grace is taken in three ways.. Being in Good Grace.. as the king looked on him with favor..2.. a gift freely bestowed..3 a gift given ‘gratis ‘ as we said to be grateful for benefits.. need to acknowledge the gift’
A charism comes from the word Grace.. a charism ow a grace freely given. So it comes from the good graces of God.. freely given.. this is 1 and 2 of St Thomas definition..
But in order for it to be a grace we have to acknowledge the grace the gift. Without acknowledging the gift we don’t have it according to St Thomas, now this would be supernatural grace..
Therefore a person would not have a charism if they never acknowledge the gift or gave thanks for the gift charisms. A example a person would not have the gift of healing if they first didn’t give thanks for the gift of healing before praying for healing for someone. People often say I don’t know what my gifts are..
It seem to follow that you need to first show gratitude for the graces given you, and by the act of giving thanks for the grace you have them or discover them..
So if we start with wordering what are my gifts we will never find them because we first have to give gratitude for the gifts in order to find them in the first place..
