O, Star of wonder, star of night
Star of royal beauty bright
Westward leading, still proceeding,
Guide us to thy perfect light.
The Gospel tells us ‘Where is the Newborn king of the Jews? We saw His Star at it rising and have come to do him homage.’ ‘And behold The Star that they had seen at its rising preceded them, until it came and stopped over the place where the child was.’ ‘They were overjoyed at seeing The Star.’
We read in Genesis 1:16 ‘God made two great lights, the greater light to govern the day, and the lesser light to govern the night; he also made the stars.’
Jesus is the greater light. And Mary is the lesser light the moon. Mary reflects the light of the Sun to those who walk in darkness. Mary has no light of her own. Mary as the moon reflects the light…
