In the first reading today from the first book of Samuel. David fights Goliath. We read ‘Then, staff in hand, David selected five smooth stones from the wadi and put In the pocket of his shepherd’s bag.’

Goliath is a symbol of the world, the flesh and the devil.’ Goliath has all the trapping of power. David says ‘ You come against me with sword and spear and scimitar, but I come against you in the name of the Lord of host, the God of the armies of Israel that you have insulted.’

David with one swing and one stone kills Goliath.

This Friday hundreds of thousands will be marching for life. They come with the stones of faith hope and charity.

The Rosary is an image of the stone. By the power of the rosary we can obtain all that we need from God. Each Hail Mary is a stone that we throw at the devil. And like David killing Goliath with a single stone. We can do the same when we have the stone of the Hail Mary and of Faith.
