What is Philosophy. Philosophy begins with a sense of wonder..Being Curious. ‘In Plato dialogue, Theaetetus -a dialogue about knowledge- Socrates says to his young interlocutor, Theaatetus, that a sense of wonder is the mark of a philosopher.’ So Children are natural philosophers.. Because I child will ask it mom..’Why is the sky blue…Why do I have to go to school?’

A good place to start to help foster in a child there natural sense of wonder of philosophy is Curious George.. Ever Curious George book begins with ‘George was a good little monkey.. But George was Curious.’

George loved the man in the yellow hat. The man in the yellow hat saved George in the jungle, and brought him home to live with him in the big city. George loved the man in the yellow hat and the man in the yellow hat loved George.

I think the man in the yellow hat can be an image of Mary or Jesus. He watches over George. My favorite story in the series is “George goes to the hospital.’ George eats a puzzle piece and his stomach is upset…Now any parent can identify with this..Children pick up things and put them in their mouth. In fact, one of the arguments for Guardian Angels is that no infant ought to live past the age of 4, if their was not some kinda of invisible angel watching over them.

Yes our curiosity can cause trouble. In fact the spiritual writers tell us that part of prudence is not being over curious about things that are not your business. St Paul says ‘don’t speculate about things that are left only to God.’ There is a saying ‘Curiosity killed the Cat.’ But that being said God gave us a natural sense of curiosity that God wants us to nurture, remember philosophy beings with a natural sense of curiosity. In this George is a natural philosopher.

So in the book ‘George goes to the Hospital’ George eats a puzzle piece. Parents are like ‘I can relate to that.’ In the hospital George meets Betsy. Betsy is sacred because she is in the hospital for the first time.. George can not stay still and causes chaos in the hospital, and even puts on a puppet show.’

In the end.. George brings joy to the children and puts a smile on Betsy face.’

We see that innocence when coupled with Love always turns out for the good. God can heals our mistake if He see our innocence of Heart marked by love. In the the Man in the yellow hat is a image of Mary. George ultimately loved the man in the yellow hat and he loved George.

In the end.. George gets a package. And inside the package is the puzzle piece that the doctors took out of him. This is an image of how God will make our mistakes our pains, even our sins part of the wonder mosaic of our life. Mary can turn even our sins into the missing puzzle piece that makes our life complete.
