As I am reading a biography of St Therese… I was flashing back maybe 20 years ago. When I was in Paris for 5 days, and I took a train to Lis..Home of St Therese.
I remember getting off the train and got right into a cab, and told cab driver that I wanted to go to the monastery of St Therese. Low and behold, the monastery where she lived was right next to the train station.. I told the cab driver, who was not even driving 20 seconds, ‘Stop.’ … what I saw had to be the convent.. I remember walking up and a lady was walking towards me, and I said to her ‘I only have a few hours to spend here, God put you in my path to show me everything.’
She had a key to the sacristy in the convent, where St Therese would prepare the chalice for Mass.. There is a famous and beautiful picture of this..
The lady took me up the mountain to the cathedral that they built for St Therese, and we went to the house where she lived, add going into the garden where Therese asked her father for permission to enter into Carmel, and where he picked a little flower and gave it to his daughter, with a Yes for his permission… In the word permission. We see the word mission. Therese and her father shared in one mission of serving Jesus.
One of my favorite saints – her little way has been my deepest reference point in my life … and it can be challenging living in today’s world to just simplify. TYFather … always so good to see you arrive in my emails. God bless you always. Marianne Eiden
